Canadian
South Devon Association Hosts Successful World Congress
With Plans Underway for Canadas First Show and Sale
The
Canadian South Devon Association and its 22 members hosted a
resoundingly successful South Devon World Association Conference
in Kananaskis, Alberta and the World Association of South Devon
Breeders Tour of Western Canada that began July 2 in Regina,
Saskatchewan, wound its way through the prairies and concluded
in Vancouver, B.C. on July 19. The South Devon World Association
represents the interests of South Devon members from associations
in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the
United States. This was the first time Canada hosted the prestigious
World Congress that drew close to 60 participants and is held
every three years in a member country.
The
fund raising auction at the World Association Conference saw
$3,989 raised with a portion of the money graciously donated
to the Canadian association, which in turn is using the funds
to host Canadas first joint show and sale for the breed.
South Devon breeders are excited with the opportunity
of showing and selling cattle at Stockade Roundup. We expect
about 25 head for the show, explained Teresa Walker, president
of the Canadian South Devon Association. We are also holding
our annual general meeting at the venue with members to vote
on Whole Herd Recording (WHR). We are the only country not on
WHR we need to have comparable performance data for international
buyers she elaborated. Stockade Roundup runs October 30
to November 1 at the exhibition grounds in Lloydminster, Alberta/Saskatchewan.
International
delegates were impressed with the quality of our Canadian cattle.
In fact two bulls were sold to buyers south of the border during
the tour and we have confirmation of U.S. buyers coming to the
sale, Walker concluded. The 2011 World Conference will
be held in Australia.
